Vanessa Bryant, the widow of late American basketball icon, Kobe Bryant, is expected to donate $16 million to the Mamba & Mambacita Foundation.
The money is in compensation she won from the Los Angeles (LA).
Mamba & Mambacita Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating positive impact for underserved athletes, as well as boys and girls in sport.
Madam Bryant won the money in damages for invasion of privacy after photos of her dead husband and daughter’s bodies were taken and shown to others, local US media reports monitored by African Entertainment revealed.
Kobe Bryant, aged 41, and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, died in the plane crash in January 2020.
And reports say the LA County Sheriff’s deputies and firefighters who rushed to the scene of the crash took pictures of the carnage and the victims.
Reports say some of the first responders showed the photographs to members of the public, while one deputy texted them to a friend as the pair played video games.
But the LA County says in its defense that the photos have never become public and officials have been diligent in efforts to clear them from devices.
However, reports said Vanessa Bryant and Chris Chester, whose wife Sarah, 45, and daughter, Payton, 13, also died in the helicopter crash that killed nine people, live in fear of about the photographs surfacing on the internet one day.
As a result, Chester and Vanessa sued the LA County for emotional damages over the photos.
Their suits were combined and Chester has since been awarded $15 million.
Speaking about her $16 million compensation, Vanessa says she wanted the money to “shine a light on Kobe and Gigi’s legacy.”
In their ruling, the jury indicated that sheriff’s deputies and firefighters who rushed to the scene of the crash unlawfully took pictures of the carnage, including the mangled remains of the Los Angeles Lakers star, Kobe Bryant and his daughter.
