William Ruto Tours Homa Bay in Maiden Visit to Western Kenya Since August 9

• President William Ruto on Sunday, October 2, attended a church service at African Inland Church (AIC) in Homa Bay town
• The head of state was accompanied by, among others, ICT Cabinet Secretary designate Eliud Owalo and former governor Okoth Obado
• However, Homa Bay governor Gladys Wanga missed the service saying she was out of the county

President William Ruto has arrived in Homa Bay county, where he is joining the faithful at African Inland Church (AIC) in the county’s town for a worship service.

This is Ruto’s first trip to Western Kenya since he won the August 9 presidential election, where he faced off with Raila Odinga, who has a huge following from Homa Bay.

On his tour, the head of state was accompanied by, among others, ICT Cabinet Secretary designate Eliud Owalo, MP Ndindi Nyoro, Julius Jwan, Okoth Obado, Jack Ranguma and Dalmas Otieno.

Gladys Wanga skips service

However, Homa Bay governor Gladys Wanga was no-show.

In a statement early on Sunday, October 2, she welcomed the president in Homa Hay but regretted her absence, citing being “on official duty”.

“President William Ruto is today scheduled to visit Homa Bay Town to worship with us at the AIC Church. I wish to extend a warm welcome to the president on behalf of the great people of Homa Bay and request him to feel at home.

I am however out of the county on official duty and will therefore be unable to join him for the church service and have communicated the same to His Excellency. The people of Homa Bay have a culture of great hospitality and will warmly receive The President as he visits to pray with us. Karibu sana,” she wrote.

Homa Bay county on spot for leaving PWDs out of assembly nomination list

In other news, persons living with disability in Homa Bay county poked holes in the Member of County Assembly (MCA) nominations list presented to the Independence Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The persons living with a disability complained that they were not well represented because the names forwarded to the commission did match theirs.

David Ocholla, the coordinator county disability forum, disclosed that the people living with a disability have been discriminated against since the inception of devolution.
