William Ruto’s Probable Cabinet Set to Be Unveiled over the Weekend

After officially assuming office on Tuesday, September 13, President William Ruto’s next daunting task is forming his government to deliver on his development agenda.

KTN News reported that the head of state is expected to finalise the list of Cabinet Secretaries.

According to sources, the CSs would be unveiled before he travels out of the country for his first foreign trip as president.

1. Western Kenya

Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi is highly touted to occupy the National Treasury docket together with the post of the Chief Minister. This position is expected to be created through an Executive Order by the president.

Another name from the Mulembe nation likely to feature in the Cabinet is that of Ababu Namwamba (Foreign Affairs).

2. Rift Valley

In his backyard, the name of the current Labour Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui has popped up that could see him assume his previous Ministry of Water and Sanitation.

In the North Rift, Ruto’s Head of Campaign Secretariat, Josphat Nanok, the immediate Turkana governor, has been floated.

3. Northern Kenya

Garissa Township MP Aden Duale for the Northern region is also among those expected in the Cabinet as sources say he is keen on the defence ministry.

This is a seat that former Internal Security Cabinet minister Katoo Ole Metito featured.

4. Mt Kenya

For the vote-rich Mt Kenya region, Kandara MP Alice Wahome, former Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and former National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi are highly likely to feature in the Cabinet list.

According to sources, Muturi will probably serve in a ministry touching on culture and heritage.

5. Nyanza

In the Nyanza region, former Migori governor Okoth Obado and the Kisii United Democratic Alliance (UDA) gubernatorial candidate Ezekiel Machogu are among the two candidates.

The two have been among Ruto’s troops in the region.

6. Coast

At the coast, former Kwale governor Salim Mvurya, Hassan Omar and Aisha Jumwa are expected to play critical roles in Ruto’s government.

The trio played a critical role in Ruto’s presidential campaigns, and they expected to be rewarded for their efforts.

7. Eastern

The name of immediate former Machakos governor Alfred Mutua is also expected to feature in Ruto’s Cabinet, representing the Ukambani region.

The Maendeleo Chap Chap party leaders crossed to Kenya Kwanza from Raila Odinga’s Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party.

William Ruto’s headache

Sources further say that Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen is keen on a Cabinet slot.

However, according to insiders, Ruto is concerned about sitting MPs eyeing Cabinet slots considering the financial implications of by-elections since they will have to resign from their posts.

Ruto’s first foreign trip

Ruto is expected today, Friday, September 16, in Naivasha to chair the Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary Group meeting to build consensus on parliamentary House leadership.

On Tuesday, September 13, Ruto was sworn in as the fifth president of the Republic of Kenya.
