Fresh from the Cabinet table, former justice minister Kris Faafoi has started a public relations and lobbying firm with a powerful media industry investor.
Faafoi left Parliament at the end of June, after 17 years. He worked in Parliament first as a political reporter, before moving to become chief press secretary for then Opposition leader Phil Goff.
Under Jacinda Ardern’s Government, he served as minister of justice, immigration, broadcasting, emergency management, commerce and consumer affairs.
His lengthy list of former titles has borne fruit in his new profession.

On a new website for his soon-to-launch lobbying firm, Dialogue 22, Faafoi has listed his experiences in Parliament as proof of his deep connections in the halls of power.
Its tag line reads: “Results through relationships.”
The firm is part of Waitapu Group, owned by media businessman Greg Partington.
The group operates a collection of advertising and media businesses, including magazine publisher School Rd and ad agency Stanley St. The group includes eight different brands, ranging from the Māori-focused marketing agency Tātou to an e-commerce company headed by Suzanne Paul.
Faafoi is listed as chief executive officer of Dialogue 22, which, according to the Companies Register, is wholly owned by the Waitapu Group.
The company offers crisis management, lobbying and media relations services. It promises the ability to get clients “in front of decision-makers, the public and the media”.
Of Government, it promised unique insights from “the highest level”.
And the former broadcasting minister also claimed to “know why and how journalists ask questions”.
When he resigned from Parliament earlier this year, Faafoi said he was looking forward to a few months off before he planned to look into business opportunities.
His firm is yet to officially launch, but a version of its website is online now. Records show Dialogue 22 was registered with the Companies Office in September.
