Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has addressed the rivalry between WhatsApp and iMessage while saying that the Meta-owned messaging app is still more secure and private than the Apple-owned app.
WhatsApp and iMessage are two of the most popular messaging apps for Android and iOS platforms, and each comes with a unique experience. WhatsApp focuses on end-to-end encryption, and iMessage offers great integration on Apple devices. Both apps have sometimes been controversial over data breach incidents. However, Zuckerberg claims WhatsApp is a more secure and private option compared to iMessage.
Zuckerberg shared his thoughts in an Instagram post and emphasized WhatsApp end-to-end encryption for both iPhones and Android devices. He says the feature encompasses group chats and backups. Zuckerberg also says users can set chats to “disappear with the tap of a button,” and he also blasts Apple for lacking these features.
“WhatsApp is far more private and secure than iMessage, with end-to-end encryption that works across both iPhones and Android, including group chats,” Zuckerberg wrote in his post.

According to Will Cathcart, head of WhatsApp at Meta, the company has started a marketing campaign to promote end-to-end encryption and tell the U.S. people about its importance.

Mark Zuckerberg’s attempts to taunt Apple coincide with Apple’s recent actions to block Facebook’s tracking capabilities on the iPhone. Last year, Facebook said that iOS’s new App Tracking Transparency feature could decrease its revenue by $10 billion.
