Baringo school learners decline to pick their KCPE results

At least 58 learners who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination at Tangulbei Primary School in Tiaty, Baringo County have declined to pick their results.

The school headteacher said the problem started with the 2021 KCPE results but learners have declined to pick their results.

“Kenya National Examination Council accidentally changed our school name and did not change our school code. The learners did well but they are shocked that their school is not Tangulbei,” said the headteacher Francis Merinyang.

The highest candidate in the just-released examinations got 399 marks. 23 learners got 300 and above marks, recording a mean of 281.55.

He said the school name was changed to Kasilwangwa Primary School while the school code remained that of Tangulbei Primary School.

Changing a school name, he said requires that an application be made, through the sub-county director. He said no one has ever applied to have the name of the school changed.

Tangulbei Primary was started in 1976. It is situated in Tangulbei Korosi ward. Kasilwangwa is situated in Churo ward.

Tangulbei Primary Examination Code is 33584011, while Kasilwangwa Code is 33584003. While Tangulbei is a day boarding school, Kasilwangwa is a day school.

 “It is worrying that the school name was changed, without the knowledge of the board, the sponsor, parents, and other stakeholders,” he said.

The head teacher said he is being blamed for the change in name of the school. KNEC he said has totally declined to have the issue addressed.

“Parents are telling me I am the head teacher and having come from Kasilangwa I am bringing the name to Tangulbei,” he said.

He revealed that he wrote to KNEC last year to have the issue addressed but nothing has been done.

He said when the 2021 candidates picked their results indicating they were from Kasilwangwa, and had used Tangulbei Primary rubber stamp to approve the results slips and leaving certificate clashed.

“Some of the principals called me saying I was using the wrong rubber stamps to approve the result slips, as the real result slip indicates the child is from Kasilwangwa, I tried explaining but they declined and asked me to go to KNEC,” he said.

Enock Koech, Tiaty Sub-County Director of Education said they were aware of the case.

“We are aware and we have written to KNEC, and we hope to have the issue addressed,” he said.
