The PS VR2 will have its own collection of interesting and unique titles, but it’s also bound to get some pretty neat classic games, like this revival of a SEGA classic called C-Smash VRS. Originally, this was a game you could pick up on the SEGA Dreamcast and in that form it was called Cosmic Smash. Back then it wasn’t a virtual reality game, despite having the kind of polygonal futuristic aesthetic that we may have imagined VR would deliver.
C-Smash VRS is a “reimagining” of SEGA’s sports puzzler, says Sony’s PlayStation Blog post. Depending on where you live, you may have never heard of Cosmic Smash before. And there’s a good reason for that. As far as the Dreamcast release goes, it was only available in Japan. The console release also followed the original arcade launch. Though it only popped up in select arcades throughout Japan and Europe. So the game never officially came to the US which was obviously a huge market for Dreamcast.
Now, the game will be getting a worldwide release wherever PS VR2 will be available. Meaning a lot more people will get to experience it for the first time, this time on PS5. Even if the gameplay and visuals have been changed up to fit the VR format.
C-Smash VRS lands on PS VR2 later this year, but a demo drops in March
Although there is no official release date for the game yet, Sony says that it’ll be “sharing the release date soon.” Soon is a pretty relative term so the announcement could be weeks or even months away. But the good news is there will be a playable demo. And that does have a release date.
The demo for C-Smash VRS will be available on March 23. Even better, is that you can play the game solo or with a friend online. The main game will also support online play when it comes out.
In the meantime, you can check out a trailer for the game below.
