Liverpool welcome Manchester United to Anfield in a huge Super Sunday showdown.
Victory would see Liverpool climb to fifth in the table, whilst Man Utd can stay third with a win.
Team News
Naby Keita is a doubt for Liverpool after suffering a knock which kept him out of their midweek win against Wolves.
Arthur Melo (thigh) could return if he passes a late fitness test but Calvin Ramsay (knee), Joe Gomez (muscle), Thiago Alcantara (hip) and Luis Diaz (knee) remain absent.
Man Utd could welcome Jadon Sancho back into contention after he missed their comeback FA Cup win against West Ham in midweek.
Luke Shaw (fitness) could also return but Christian Eriksen (ankle), Donny van de Beek (knee), Anthony Martial (leg) and Mason Greenwood (personal) remain absent.
When is Kick-Off?
Liverpool meet Man Utd at Anfield on Sunday 5 March in a 4:30pm GMT kick-off, live on Sky Sports in UK.
Stat Attack
- Liverpool have lost just one of their last nine league meetings against Man Utd (W5, D3, L1).
- Man Utd are winless in their last six league visits to Anfield (D3, L3).
- Jurgen Klopp’s Reds have conceded just one goal in their last seven matches at home to Utd in all competitions, which came in a 3-1 win in December 2018.
- Liverpool have conceded in just one of their last six league matches (W3, D2, L1).
- Utd have lost just one of their last five league matches away from home (W3, D1, L1).
Prediction
Despite their inconsistent form since the start of this year, Liverpool finally might be starting to click again with five clean sheets in their last six league games, yet they did make hard work of their midweek win against Wolves but other results now mean they’re in the top-four race again.
Man Utd meanwhile come into this match off the back of a tough comeback win at home to West Ham in midweek, in which they did concede a sloppy goal instead of playing to the whistle amidst confusion which can’t be repeated against this powerful front three of Liverpool.
Utd though did dominate that game and deserved the win even if they left it late to score three crucial goals amidst rotation within his line-up, which hopefully will mean that they can come out and play with the patience and fluidity which has served them in recent weeks.
Anfield though will be a difficult away ground for Utd given their recent poor away form on the red side of Merseyside, yet they’ve lost just one away game in 2023 and are in a strong place to come and really test Liverpool’s current performance levels.
Although I do feel like Utd will snatch the win, Liverpool certainly won’t make this easy but at least this fixture hasn’t been overhyped like it has been in recent seasons, which makes me think that this game won’t be short on entertainment.
Prediction: Liverpool 1-2 Manchester United
