Can you briefly share your journey into the world of costume design and fashion styling?
My journey commenced during my school years, fueled by a passion for clothing and the art of dressing others. Even as a child, I adorned my toys and dolls, reveling in the creativity of sketching and drawing. In college, my aspiration to study Applied Arts was rerouted to English Literature after an unexpected result in an art exam.
During my college tenure, I served as an assistant to the esteemed Costume Designer, Nahed Nasrallah. This experience laid the foundation for my independent ventures, wherein I acquired skills in styling, pattern-making, sewing, and understanding fabrics.
During this journey, I established an atelier while working as a stylist, catering to various clients beyond celebrities. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, I had to close the atelier. In the ever-evolving world of fashion, I persistently strive to adapt and learn, exploring diverse career avenues such as look consulting, personal shopping, red carpet styling, and editorial work.
To thrive in this industry, one must diversify their skills in order to avoid monotony. For me, the journey continues.
What made you realize that costume design and fashion styling are the ultimate careers for you?
My passion for these fields has been unwavering since childhood. Experimenting with clothes and even designing a top from a scarf as a child foreshadowed my path. There was never a contemplation of an alternative career.
Which specific fashion icons or designers inspired you in your formative years?
Growing up, designers like John Paul Gaultier, Christian Dior, Coco Chanel, and John Galliano captured my admiration. Movie fashion, particularly in films like ‘The Mask of Zoro’ and ‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’, played a significant role in shaping my perceptions.
How did you land your first significant project or client?
My debut project involved an Ariel Ad with Amr Arafa, a challenging experience that exposed me to the intricacies of international ad campaigns. The initial struggles paved the way for valuable lessons, leading me to my first movie project, ‘Gaalatny Mogreman’, a memorable and enlightening experience.
Walk us through your creative process when working on a new project. Where do you draw inspiration from?
For movies, a meticulous reading of the script precedes envisioning character looks. Collaborating with directors, creating mood boards, and adapting to contemporary tools like Pinterest guide the process. Events like Cairo Design Week allow me to curate and celebrate emerging designers.
How do you collaborate with clients or celebrities to understand their vision and bring it to life?
Listening, understanding, and adding a personal touch are paramount. Convincing clients to embrace unique looks, tailored to individual characteristics, is crucial.
You’ve worked with big stars like Mona Zaki, Youssra, Dorra, Nelly Karim, etc. Which celebrity look for a red carpet or a special event was your ‘I made it’ moment?

The best part was Lebanese Fashion Designer Zuhair Murad had just dropped his iconic Ancient Egyptian Collection. This was the perfect timing, and it was already decided that I was dressing her in Zuhair Murad.
I was up all night watching the Oscars and when she showed up, I was ecstatic and in awe of how she looked on the red carpet and while doing the interviews. Another moment was Sherihan in an ad that I was responsible for, so I had two big moments and it was unforgettable.
Is there a particular style or theme you enjoy working on the most?
Given the diversity in my projects, I don’t adhere to a specific theme. Each project demands a focused approach, be it in fashion or movies.
What are some challenges you’ve faced in your career, and how did you overcome them?
Daily challenges persist, ranging from budget constraints to convincing stakeholders of my creative vision. Overcoming these challenges requires perseverance and effective communication.\
What are the most rewarding aspects of being a costume designer/celebrity stylist for you?
Witnessing the execution of my work, receiving positive feedback, and personal satisfaction constitute the most rewarding aspects.
How do you stay updated on the latest fashion trends and incorporate them into your work?
Regularly perusing fashion magazines, social media, and following influencers keep me abreast of trends. Exposure to both Egyptian and international fashion influencers provides diverse perspectives.
Who is your favorite fashion designer?
I admire Elie Saab, Zuhair Murad, Tamara Ralph, and several Egyptian designers like Nour Azazy, Maram Borhan, and Yasmine Yehia.
Can you share a fun or unexpected fact about yourself?
In addition to my fashion pursuits, I have a passion for cooking, particularly being a pro in preparing Mahshy dishes. My family attests to my mastery in this culinary art.
Are there specific projects or collaborations you dream of pursuing?
International endeavors, particularly styling a celebrity like Jennifer Lopez, rank high on my aspirations.
If you could travel back in time and style any historical figure, who would it be and why?
Cleopatra’s powerful and statement-making style intrigues me. Styling her, with elaborate accessories and headpieces, aligns with my penchant for maximalism.
If your fashion sense had a signature scent, what would it be, and how would you describe it?
My signature scent would be Musk, embodying the essence of Arabian allure.
What are fashion tips and tricks you think would elevate an outfit?
Accessories are transformative. They have the power to shift an outfit from casual to elegant, evening to casual chic, and beyond.
