Best of the Super Bowl ads: From Ben Affleck to Jennifer Coolidge

Each year, the major sporting event secures the biggest names in entertainment to endorse their brands, and the latest stars on offer are some of the best yet for the Super Bowl LVII.

The big championship game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs has already sold several 30-second ads for north of $7million, according to industry reports.

Here, we take a look at the best celebrity-led commercials airing during one of the most coveted ad breaks in television — with advertisers pulling out all the stops (and the big money checks) to grab your attention.

Pete Davidson

Pete Davidson’s high-profile romances with Kim Kardashian and Emily Ratajkowski made him a perfect choice to sell… Hellmann’s mayonnaise?

The bizarre brand pairing sees Davidson pair up with Oscar-winner Brie Larson and Mad Men star Jon Hamm in the quirky commercial for the condiment, perhaps testing whether the ladies man has the charm and looks to sell just about anything.

In the clip, the 29-year-old comedian looms over the tiny versions of Hamm and Larson who are in the fridge.

“I’m gonna eat you guys,” Davidson says. The screen cuts to a shot of a panini maker making a ham and brie (or Hamm and Brie) sandwich. See what they did there?

Hamm and Larson, now freed from the fridge and full size, stand next to Davidson as he bites into his sandwich. ‘You guys are really delicious,’ The King of Staten Island star says with his mouth full. Hamm quipped, ‘That’s weird.’

Sylvester Stallone

The Italian Stallion is back: Hot on the heels of his upcoming reality show centered around his family, action hero Sylvester Stallone is reprising one of his most iconic roles for the Super Bowl, but no, it’s not Rocky or Rambo.

The 76-year-old actor is riffing on his role in 1993 blockbuster Cliffhanger for Paramount+ as he scales a mountain that his shaped like his face.

Sly channeled his character Gabe Walker who is a former mountain rescuer is pitted against a group of criminals who have lost their $100 million stash during a plane crash in the Rocky Mountains. The end of the funny clip features his daughters Sophia Stallone, Sistine Stallone, and Scarlet Stallone.

Sylvester stars on drama Tulsa King for the streamer as his entire brood stars in reality show The Family Stone along with wife Jennifer Flavin Stallone.

Anna Faris

Chris Pratt’s ex-wife Anna Faris – who has been spending more of time off-camera on her podcast the last few years – made a big comeback via a commercial for avocados this year.

In a shock move, the Scary Movie star appeared nude in a teaser for an Avocados From Mexico commercial which debuted at the 2023 Super Bowl on February 12.

The 46-year-old actress portrayed Eve from the Garden of Eden with just her long blonde hair to protect her modesty in the commercial where she discovers the ‘forbidden fruit’.

Earlier this week, she made the move to switch it up and sign with a new agency after a two-year hiatus and her latest comedy film The Estate bombed in the box office. In the teaser of her first-ever Super Bowl commercial, the Mom alum nearly bares it all as she stumbles upon an avocado.

John Travolta

Following the tragic death of Olivia Newton-John last September, John Travolta paid homage to the movie that made them global stars – as he channeled his Grease character Danny Zuko for T-Mobile’s Super Bowl Commercial.

The 68-year-old A-lister was not alone as he was joined by actors from the sitcom Scrubs Zach Braff and Donald Faison.

The trio of stars broke out into a revised version of Summer Nights from the iconic 1978 film which Travolta had sung alongside late co-star Olivia.

Jennifer Coolidge

Jennifer Coolidge has finally got the chance to play her ‘dream’ role of a dolphin, as the comeback queen stars in an upcoming Super Bowl commercial alongside The White Lotus director Mike White.

The golden Globe winning-actress, 61, showed off her comedic flair – and high-pitched dolphin sounds – in a teaser for the advert for e.l.f. cosmetics, one month after revealing she would love to play the aquatic mammal in her next role.

In the commercial for the brand’s Power Grip primer, the beauty opens up a PR package and exclaims: ‘I love presents! Get ready for prime time!

As she applies the viral product onto her fully made-up face, she declares: ‘Oh my gosh! It looks like I came from the sea, I look like a dolphin! Like a baby dolphin!’ before launching into a series of high-pitched squeaks and whistles.

She adds: I love it . This primer stuff is sticky. I’m so dewy, people are going to complain!’ before bursting into laughter.

Alicia Silverstone

Alicia Silverstone revived her Clueless character Cher for her Super Bowl commercial.

The 46-year-old actress stepped back into the role of the fashion-lovingCalifornia girl to film a spot for Rakuten which is due to air during the upcoming 2023 Super Bowl.

A teaser for the spot shows the actress back in Cher’s iconic yellow checked skirt and blazer costume.

During the clip, the character seen marching into a classroom with shopping bags held aloft before turning and addressing the students in the room, saying: ‘Don’t bug – your girl is back.’

The advert is set to the sound of Supergrass’ hit track Alright which famously featured in the 1995 film and is promoting a cash back scheme for the brand which Silverstone says Cher would have loved.

Ben Stiller

Ben Stiller showed off his acting chops while getting back into character as the airheaded male model Derek Zoolander in a new Pepsi ad that will air at the Super Bowl.

The new ad comically highlights the 57-year-old actor’s comedic skills by letting him show off a variety of bizarre personas, before Zoolander makes a brief appearance with his classic Blue Steel expression.

Unfortunately, he made it clear in an interview with People that there aren’t any plans at the moment for a third Zoolander film.

Stiller — who will next be showing his range by playing a set of identical triplets who were separated at birth in an adaptation of the documentary Three Identical Strangers — opens the commercial in a battled scarred science-fiction wasteland as he fights with a reptilian alien.

‘Stay away from my wife,’ he hilariously says before slashing at the fallen creature and setting off a cascade of green goo. But then the director calls cut and the camera cuts to reveal that he’s just on a sound stage and surrounded by green screens.

After introducing himself, Stiller says, “My job as an actor is making you believe what you’re seeing is real”.

Amy Schumer and Doja Cat

Amy Schumer and Doja Cat were among the big names to star in Google Pixel’s multimillion dollar spot for the Super Bowl.

The 41-year-old actress and 27-year-old singer were featured in the 90-second commercial which focused on the phone’s photo editing tools.

In the hilarious spot, the two utilized the ‘magic eraser’ feature which could delete unwanted people from their images including photobombers. The two were also joined by NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounpo in the spot as he also got into the action.

Amy deleted exes from her photos while Giannis cut himself out of a photo of Boston Celtics player Jaylen Brown dunking on him.

Doja highlighted a different Google Pixel feature called ‘unblur’ which improved the clarity of a blurry selfie she took with a fan.

ere’s a look at some of the ads that have been released so far:

For the final time, Harrison Ford returns as Indiana Jones in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

It’s one of the most highly anticipated films of the year and finally, fans have been given a glimpse at the fifth Indiana Jones flick.

Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul

Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston reprised their iconic Breaking Bad characters for a new PopCorners Super Bowl LVII commercial.

The 43-year-old actor Paul was back in character as Jesse Pinkman while 66-year-old Cranston once again channeled Walter White for the minute-long spot set to air during Sunday’s big game.

They were not the only familiar faces from the highly-popular AMC series as Raymond Cruz – who played drug lord Tuco Salamanca – was also featured in the spot.

The clip began with Jesse checking out the ‘bomb’ creation that Walter had just cooked up.

Cardi B and Offset

Last year, Kanye West teamed up with McDonald’s and now it’s time for hip hop’s favourite couple Cardi B and Offset.

The powerhouse couple appears in McDonald’s Super Bowl ad about knowing your partner’s order.

The pair sit in a booth as they hold hands with drinks placed in between them.
