Several motorcyclists, possibly gang members, have been injured in a fiery crash in South Canterbury this afternoon.

Police said the crash happened on State Highway 79, between Geraldine and Fairlie, near the Townsend Road intersection.

Several people have minor injuries, and one person with a suspected spinal injury was due to be flown to hospital.

There have been reports those injured are members of the Tribesmen gang, but police have not confirmed it.

Fire and Emergency is also responding to a vegetation fire that ignited when one of the crashed bikes caught alight.
