A body has been recovered by police after a house fire in Manurewa on Saturday night.
The fire happened at a residential property on Nina Place, with the police treating it as an unexplained death.
A man living at the property remained in Middlemore Hospital after getting extensive burns from the fire, police said.
A post-mortem examination will take place in the next few days to confirm the identity and determine the cause of death.
The investigation will be done by police, with support from Fire and Emergency NZ.
Locals should expect to see police at the scene until the examination is complete, they said.
