Indianapolis Colts Engage in Trade Talks for Jonathan Taylor
The Indianapolis Colts have opened discussions regarding the potential trade of running back Jonathan Taylor, amid a series of team changes leading up to the NFL trade deadline.
Active Trade Conversations
According to reports from ESPN and NFL Network, several teams, including the Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, and Seattle Seahawks, have inquired about Taylor’s availability. The negotiations surrounding Taylor are reported to be “active and ongoing.”

Trade Offers and Team Strategy
ESPN also indicated that at least one offer for Taylor included a second-round draft pick along with additional incentives. Following the dismissal of General Manager Chris Ballard, the Colts have signaled their intention to sell players before the November 10 deadline. As part of this process, they recently traded All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson to the Seahawks and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner back to the San Francisco 49ers.
Additionally, wide receiver Josh Downs has expressed a desire to be traded, although the Colts have indicated they value him at a third-round pick and would prefer to retain him amid their rebuilding efforts.
Internal Discussions and Future Outlook
Despite Taylor’s expressed preference to remain with the Colts, he acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding his situation. He recently had a detailed meeting with team owner Jim Irsay-Gordon, who is reportedly hopeful that Taylor can be a central part of the franchise’s rebuilding strategy. Given the Colts’ struggle in the current season with a 2-5 record in the AFC South, the organization is keen to accumulate draft picks for future prospects.

Performance and Potential
If a trade for Taylor transpires, any acquiring team would be gaining a premier talent in the league. The 27-year-old running back has recorded over 1,100 rushing yards in four out of his six seasons in the NFL and is on course to continue that trend, having accumulated 587 yards and eight touchdowns over the first seven games of the current season.
As the Colts prepare for their upcoming matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars, both Taylor and head coach Shane Steichen have emphasized a focus on the immediate challenges while navigating the uncertainty of trade talks.
