Construction begins on congestion-busting intersection upgrade at Pallara

Construction begins on congestion-busting intersection upgrade at Pallara

Works are underway to cut congestion and enhance safety of all road users in Brisbane’s southwest, with construction commencing to upgrade the intersection at Wadeville Street and Parkwood Drive.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the upgrade is necessary to improve safety, reduce congestion and support growth in an increasingly popular part of southwest Brisbane.

“This intersection upgrade will help further relieve congestion in a growing corridor used by around 11,000 vehicles a day, especially during school drop-off and pick-up times,” Cr Schinner said.

“The latest upgrade will include realigning and straightening Wadeville Street to create a T-intersection and installing traffic signals, with signalised crossing points.

“It comes off the back of recent works to improve access to the growing Pallara State School which included a new turning pocket and dedicated safe crossing points, which were completed in November.

This intersection is part 1B of Council’s Ritchie Road & Wadeville Street and corridor upgrade. The suite of projects will reduce congestion and protect all road users, in particular the many students choosing to walk or ride to school.

The project, which is part of Council’s $7.1m investment to improve road corridors, is fully funded by the Australian Government through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program.

The local Councillor, Angela Owen (Calamvale), said the upgrades will benefit pedestrians, as well as dramatically reduce traffic queuing in the corridor.

“The suburbs of Pallara and Heathwood have grown rapidly over the past 3 years and this upgrade improves connectivity for residents,” Cr Owen said.

“The safety of schoolchildren and pedestrians in this precinct is a priority, as well as getting residents home sooner and safer.”

All construction has been programmed to minimise impacts to school traffic, with no lane closures during peak school drop-off and pick-up times.

For more information on this project, contact Council on 07 3403 8888 or visit and search ‘Wadeville Street and Ritchie Road corridor improvements project’.
