In the aftermath of the UN COP17 biodiversity conference, Carbon Brief organized a livestream event to provide insights on the discussions and decisions made during the summit.
Journalists Orla Dwyer and Aruna Chandrasekhar reported live from Yerevan, Armenia, over the course of two weeks, detailing the negotiation process that unfolded.
They were joined on the livestream by associate editors Dr. Giuliana Viglione and Daisy Dunne, who monitored the proceedings from Washington D.C. and London, respectively.
In addition, Carbon Brief released an extensive 10,000-word report unpacking the key outcomes and implications of COP17.

During the livestream, Orla and Aruna focused on key topics at COP17, including biodiversity finance strategies and the inaugural “global review” aimed at evaluating efforts to halt biodiversity decline.
The panel also participated in an “ask me anything” session, addressing audience inquiries about topics such as “nature-harming subsidies,” marine biodiversity conservation, and the status of the Cali fund designed to attract private-sector financial contributions.
A recorded version of the webinar is now available for viewing on YouTube, providing further insights into the discussions.
