ELDORADO, Ill. — Crews are working to clean up and assess damage at a local hospital.
“Then that happened — the water came into the facility through the front entrances and overwhelmed the front of the hospital, including the lobby, cafeteria, parts of the emergency department, our clinic space, and several other ancillary departments,” Keene said.
Keene said once the water started coming in, there wasn’t much they could do.
“We had multiple drainage systems all the way out to the parking lot, and unfortunately, it was just overrun because of the volume of rain,” he said. But they have started the cleanup efforts.
“At this point, we have a restoration crew on site. They worked overnight to be able to finish getting the water out and get equipment set up to dry things out,” he said.
He said right now there isn’t a timeline for when they’ll reopen. They are in contact with the Illinois Department of Public Health.
“They’ve been advised of our situation. We have industrial hygienists en route to be able to help us put together a cleaning plan. Once the cleaning plan is established, we will work with the Illinois Department of Health to recertify the facility,” he said.
He’s grateful to all the other hospitals in the region for their support. “Health care is a very tight-knit community…They’ve all to a person reached out you know, with any help that they can provide,” he said.
