Brent Carelse, the former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, has expressed optimism about Kaizer Chiefs’ prospects this season, citing their current performance levels.
Despite a recent 2-1 defeat to Orlando Pirates at the FNB Stadium, which placed Chiefs fifth in the Betway Premiership, Carelse believes their efforts on the pitch have been commendable.
“I anticipated that Chiefs could produce an upset given their form. They showcased a strong desire to win in the initial 30 minutes, but unfortunately, Pirates capitalized on their chances,” Carelse shared with KickOff.
“The key difference was that Pirates took their opportunities while Chiefs failed to convert theirs. Although it was a thrilling match and showcased South African football well, Chiefs let it slip in crucial moments,” he added.
Carelse Optimistic About Chiefs’ Future
Carelse emphasized that if Kaizer Chiefs maintain their current trajectory, they will likely have notable achievements by season’s end.
“The display they put on had many positive elements. If they can sustain that level of play, success will follow, and they could have something significant to show by the end of the season, especially if they continue with their initial momentum against Pirates,” he said.
In their upcoming match, Kaizer Chiefs are set to face Siwelele in the Carling Knockout Cup. A victory could bring them closer to securing their first trophy of the season.
