The Journey of Discovery: Cy Kuckenbaker’s “Everything Twice”
“Everything Twice” presents an introspective exploration of disability and our navigation through the world. Cy Kuckenbaker, a photographer, has lived with the unique challenge of a drooping eyelid since childhood, a condition he initially believed was the result of a snowboarding accident. However, extensive medical evaluations eventually led to the revelation that he was born with a rare disease.
A Creative Response to Adversity
Kuckenbaker chronicles his journey of self-discovery alongside a deliberate, slow-paced photographic process aimed at combatting burnout. He utilizes homemade cameras fabricated from cardboard boxes and magnifying glasses found in local drugstores to capture the diverse landscapes of the West Coast. This fusion of labor-intensive photography and profound personal revelation results in a short film that serves as both a journey of self-exploration and a meditation on themes of disconnection and loss.
