Germany supports freedom of the press worldwide

Berlin (d.de) – Promoting freedom of the press is a particular priority for the German government. That’s why Germany, represented by the Federal Foreign Office, will co-chair the Media Freedom Coalition along with Estonia in 2024. In the organisation, 50 countries and more than 20 non-governmental organisations work together to promote freedom of the press and media worldwide. The member countries of the Media Freedom Coalition have committed themselves to promoting freedom of the press – both at home and in their cooperation with third countries. They also liaise closely when it comes to defending at-risk media representatives. In its role as co-chair, Germany will also campaign to get more countries to join the network.
