Where is Vico Equense?
Vico Equense is located in the province of Naples, which is in southern Italy. It’s about a two-hour drive from Naples Airport (NAP) and has its own train station that links it up with other areas on the island.
If you’re coming from Naples Airport or any other point on the island by train or bus, simply get off at “Vico Equense” stop (or “Vico Equensi”). From there it’s just a short walk into town!
The town has a population of about 13,000 people and offers visitors plenty to see and do. It’s known for its beautiful beaches, which are some of the most secluded in all of Italy. If you want to get away from it all and relax on the beach, this is where you should go!
The name “Vico” derives from the Latin vicus, it mean village, group of homes, while “Equense” also derives from the Latin term Aequana which was an ancient town which was destroyed by the Goths.
What can you do in Vico Equense?
There are plenty of things to do in Vico Equense! You’ll find plenty of shops and restaurants, as well as parks and beaches within walking distance from anywhere in town. If you’re feeling adventurous, try hiking up Mount Vesuvius or explore some ancient ruins nearby.
Once you arrive in Vico Equense, head to its main square and check out its beautiful architecture. If you’re feeling hungry, pop into one of its many restaurants for some delicious Italian food. Then, if you have time left over, take a walk along the beach or explore the local churches. But don’t forget to stop at one of the town’s famous gelato shops!
The market
If you’re visiting Vico Equense on the weekend, be sure to check out the weekly market at Piazza del Mercato. You’ll find everything from local produce and flowers to clothing and handmade goods at this weekly gathering. If you happen to be there on a Thursday or Sunday, you can catch some live music performances on Piazza del Mercato as well!
Visit the church of Annunciation
The Church of the Annunciation was built in the early 14th century on a cliff overlooking the sea. It’s the only example of Gothic architecture in the Sorrento area, while its facade is in Baroque style.
Inside are preserved precious pieces of furniture, a carved choir, frescoes and paintings of great value, as well as engraved tombs in one of which rest the remains of famous Neapolitan economist Gaetano Filangieri.
Marino di Vico Beach
The rugged coastline of Vico Marina is dotted with numerous coves, and it’s home to a quaint town that has some of the most beautiful architecture in Italy.
The town is equipped with beautiful beaches, as well as a small harbor where you can moor your boat and rent boats of your own.
