Hand Over Now: Wiper Wants Kalonzo to Take Over Azimio Leadership from Raila Odinga

• Kitui senator Enoch Wambua said Raila should hand over his support base and Azimio leadership to Kalonzo Musyoka
• Wambua stated that it was the fair thing to do arguing that Kalonzo had been selfless in supporting Raila in past elections
• The lawmaker observed that taking longer to decide on a presidential candidate was one of the reasons for Azimio’s defeat

The Wiper party has called on Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Coalition party leader Raila Odinga to explicitly hand over the coalition’s leadership to its party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

In an interview with NTV, Kitui senator Enoch Wambua, a close ally of Kalonzo said Raila should hand over his support base to Kalonzo insisting it is time the fair thing to do.

Wambua stated that Raila and his ODM party had benefitted from what he termed as Kalonzo’s selflessness and it is time they reciprocated.

“I believe that Raila Amollo Odinga, a man we hold with very high esteem and respect and the Nyanza backyard of ODM and other strongholds of ODM. They have benefited from the selflessness of his excellency, Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka. It’s only fair that they reciprocate that gesture beginning this January,” said the legislator.

Start early

The senator added that for them to wrestle the country’s leadership from President William Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza brigade, they must start campaigns early.

“We must be very clear with our presidential candidate in 2027 will be so that we have time enough time to popularise our candidate, to visit as many parts of this country as possible and to make sure that Kenyans now begin to familiarise themselves with the possibility of a Kalonzo presidency. For that to happen, we must do what Ruto did. We must begin our campaigns yesterday,” he stated.

The lawmaker observed that one of the reasons Azimio lost the August 2022 polls was because they took a lot of time to decide their flag-bearer.

“One of the reasons why we lost this election to William Ruto, the president, is because we took too long as Azimio to decide on the ticket, the presidential ticket. We made the announcement at a time that President Ruto had already taken perhaps 50% of this country,” he added.

Kivutha Kibwana dismisses a Kalonzo presidency

Earlier, Former Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana opined that for the Kamba nation to survive politically, Kalonzo must step out from Azimio and chart his own political path.

Kibwana believed that there will be no Eastern liberation if the Wiper leader continued to forge alliances with the ODM leader.
