Heartwarming Moments That Brought Kenyans Together in 2022

• Kenyans of goodwill came to the rescue of many Kenyans on need in the year of 2022 despite tough economic times
• While others helped financially and in other ways,some built homes for the elderly, for the less fortunate and even for the sick one,
• Among the kin deeds that Kenyans did in 2022 was building 14 houses for the elderly in Nairobi’s Korogocho slums

1. Wellwishers seek help for kids whose father is in prison

In Keiyo South, Kaptarakwa Ward, Kitany location resided children whose parents left them to fate. Norman, Kibiwott, and Meshack are aged between 12 and seven and had been staying alone.

In an era where the cost of living has skyrocketed and purchasing power reduced, it has been difficult for them to find a foster home.

According to the area sub-chief Moses Keitany, their father Timothy Kimutai was incarcerated, and no one knew when he would be out.

The children were with an aunt, who was also not well off financially, as the area leadership tried to come up with a long-term solution.

“The aunt’s house is a short term arrangement, but we are considering taking them to a children’s home,” he revealed.

2. Wellwishers help ailing couple wed

In February, an ailing couple was grateful for friends and well-wishers who helped them hold a civil wedding after their two families abandoned them for pursuing their relationship.

Kenia met Jack on Facebook, and after meeting him physically, she discovered he was disabled.

Kenia then decided to tell her parents about the relationship and they were against the idea of their daughter marrying a man with a disability.

Jack suffered a stroke one day while on his way home and woke up in the hospital a month later with the right side of his body paralysed and with time Kenia also fell ill.

The two tried sacrificing their medicine for each other as they only had money for one person’s medicine. Eventually, Kenia went for surgery first to save her life.

Their friends and well-wishers contributed towards their civil wedding and only a few family members showed up for the occasion.

3. Wellwishers rally help for Aden Duale’s high school cook

Kenyans rallied help for the former Garissa High School cook after his story was first broken by a Garissa-based journalist Mohamednoor Yusuf on his YouTube Channel Garissa TV Kenya.

In the interview, the old man said that no one ever remembers what he did at the school, and now that he has retired, he needs help to cater for his seven children.

Mohamed said the school had not yet paid all his dues, and each time he visited the institution for a follow-up, they gave him empty promises and took him in circles.

“Even as I am speaking to you right now, my house recently burnt down. My eldest son has not had a job for over seven years, he just stays here,” he said

The journalist said there were individuals who had been calling him seeking to support the retired cook.

Well-wishers created a WhatsApp group to coordinate the contributions towards helping the man.

4. Welwishers build magnificent house for elderly woman

Wellwishers have teamed up .and build a magnificent house for a 79-year-old woman who was living in a dilapidated mud house with her children and her grandchildren.

The beautiful house was handed over to the needy grandmother and her children on Saturday, June 18, by the residents of Kiplombe, Eldama Ravine.

The initiative was started by Bishop Margaret Tanui in April 2021 during her birthday when she appealed to her followers to help her build a decent house for the family.

The needy family did not only get a new, spacious and magnificent house but also had their huge tract of land cultivated with maize and beans.

5. Welwishers build 14 houses for the elderly

A community-based organisation specialising in restoring the human dignity of the people of Nairobi’s Korogocho slum helped change the lives of elderly people in the area.

Restoring Dignity Korogocho, formed by people born and brought up in the slum, was on a mission to build at least 14 homes for the elderly in the community.

The organisation’s team leader Fred Mswaki said the team had already handed over one of the units, which was already complete.

“We have handed over one of the 14 homes that we have constructed belonging to the elderly neglected wazee,” said Fred.

The team leader pointed out that the organisation works on five pillars: human rights, shelter, livelihood, education, scholarship and health.

Under shelter, Restoring Dignity, Korokocho will be constructing 14 homes, while under scholarship, the organisation is supporting 40 secondary students.

6. Wellwishers build house, and furnish it for granny

In April this year, police officer Sammy Ondimu Ngare shared the heartbreaking video of an elderly woman from Nyamira begging for food and medicine.

The old lady expressed fears that she was on the verge of dying if help did not come her way soonest.

It was a plea for help that touched the hearts of many Kenyans who came out and contributed to giving her food and medicine.

The good tidings did not end there as some people proposed that there was a need to build her a better house than what she lived in.

Two months after the request, the update is that kindhearted Kenyans kept their word and upgraded the elderly woman’s life.

Apart from building a new house for her, they recently delivered a truckload of furniture to complete the equation.
