Infrabel upgrades Denderleeuw tracks with €33.5M investment

Denderleeuw (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Infrabel is upgrading Denderleeuw station tracks, replacing 1,250 meters of track, 11 switches, and adding 41 poles. The 33.5 million euro project improves safety and speed. Frédéric Petit is the spokesperson.

According to the officials, Infrabel, the company that manages Belgium’s railway system, is doing a lot of work on the train tracks. The biggest project is at Denderleeuw station. The construction zone is about 1 kilometer long, and they are replacing the train tracks, the switches that direct trains between tracks, and the poles that hold up the electric wires.  They are replacing 1,250 meters of track and 11 switches and putting in 41 new poles.

What upgrades are Infrabel making to Denderleeuw station tracks with a €33.5M investment?

Infrabel is also adding new electric wires and replacing the wooden supports under the tracks. They are adding 4,000 meters of new electric wires, replacing 2,100 wooden supports, and adding 7,000 tons of stones to help keep the tracks stable.

According to the officials, all of these changes will help the train tracks last longer and make the trains run better. They are doing this work during the Easter holidays when fewer people are traveling by train, so it won’t cause too many problems.

“On an average weekday, almost 350 trains pass Denderleeuw station.”

Frédéric Petit, spokesperson for Infrabel

The train tracks at Denderleeuw station are being upgraded. The new tracks will be connected to platforms 4 and 5, which will be ready after Easter. The other platforms will be fixed in the next few years.

They are also working on the signals between Denderleeuw and Burst. They mentioned that this will make the trains run safer and faster. No trains will run on the Denderleeuw – Burst line between April 5th and 20th, 2025. Buses will take people where they need to go during this time.

A lot of trains go through Denderleeuw station.  On weekdays, 345 trains go through, with 320 being passenger trains and 25 being freight trains. On weekends, it’s around 265 trains. Train tracks usually last 20 to 25 years.

Infrabel is making sure the tracks at Denderleeuw stay in good shape because so many trains use them. They are spending 33.5 million euros to fix the tracks and platforms.  9.2 million euros of that is for the work being done during Easter. They are also spending 13 million euros to improve the signals between Denderleeuw and Burst.
