A village in Mwingi is reeling in shock after a 40-year-old man from the area reportedly attacked two children, killing them before injuring their mother.

The man identified as Zakayo Ruth, a resident of Kwamunyanzu village reportedly attacked the woman and her children while they were on their farm.
The 10-year-old child died at the scene while his four-year-old succumbed to his injuries while receiving emergency treatment at Mwingi Level 4 Hospital.
Their mother is still fighting for her life at the same facility even as police launch a probe into the cause of the gruesome act.

The children’s father stated that he was lost for words to explain why the man had decided to wipe out his family despite living peacefully together.

He stated that they had never had an argument with the man who went into hiding after committing the crime.
“Tulikuwa tunakaa na yeye vizuri sana. Hakuna siku tumekosana naye. Inashangaza sana akitoka asubuhi alikuwa na akili ya kunimalizia familia yangu(We were staying with him very well. There is no day we disagreed with him. It is very surprising that when he came out in the morning, he had plans to finish my family),” said the deceased’s father.
The villages conducted a search in the area with hopes of finding the man who Kiomo location chief Benedeta Wamuo said was new in the area after buying land.
