A magnitude 6.9 earthquake was recorded in the Kermadec Islands region at 7.41pm on Saturday.
The European Mediterranean Seismological Centre said the quake was at a depth of 150km.
The US Tsunami Warning System said there was no tsunami warning after the quake.
