It may have been four months since Margot Robbie wrapped on promo for the Barbie movie (which saw her recreate some of the doll’s most iconic looks across the film’s international premieres), but it seems Margot can’t get enough of her muse. Last night at the Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York, she referenced another throwback Barbie moment while there to accept the Global Icon & Creator tribute with her Barbie director, Greta Gerwig.
Inspired by the 1964 Black Magic Barbie (which is said to be a favourite of the doll’s inventor, Ruth Handler), Margot wore a Little Black Dress paired with a sheer organza cape, complete with a silky black ribbon bow tied at the neck and black leather driving gloves.

As for her beauty look, Margot kept her makeup simple with a tiny wing of liquid liner along her top lash line for definition and a taupe pink lip. But she brought the drama with her hair.
Her hair stylist, Bryce Scarlett, created a high, flicked Barbie-style pony that managed to feel cute, retro and elegant at the same. He side-parted her hair and created a full swooping fringe that tucked behind the opposite ear (which Margot accessorised with large pearl earrings). Her hair was neatly swept up into her aforementioned high pony, secured by a ribbon of hair wrapped around the band. As for the end of her polished ponytail, was purposefully flicked in an “S” shape to throw back to the OG ’60s reference in a really modern way.
