Protests in France Against Rising Cost of Living Continue to Gain Momentum
Demonstrations across France regarding the escalating cost of living escalated on Thursday as public pressure mounts on the government to advance its budget proposals through parliament.
According to the Interior Ministry, approximately 575,000 individuals participated in 193 protests nationwide, marking the highest turnout since the onset of the demonstrations in September. While the majority of the protests proceeded without major disruptions, several incidents were reported in major cities such as Rennes, Marseille, Nantes, Bordeaux, and Orleans. In Lyon, a vehicle was set ablaze, and a school was reportedly set on fire near Toulouse.
In terms of public sector labor actions, participation levels remained consistent with the previous strike on September 29, with nearly 10% of state employees participating in the walkout.
