A crash in Southland has left one person dead overnight.
The single-car accident happened about 1am on North Makarewa Grove Bush Road, north of Invercargill.
The drive – the sole occupant – died at the scene.
Police are investigating.
There had previously been 36 deaths on the roads this year, according to Ministry of Transport figures.
