The 37-year-old man who was found dead on Friday in Plainevaux and is associated with the death of a teenage girl from Anderlecht, was previously convicted of arson. That conviction was really not on his criminal record, denounces the lawyer of the man’s former girlfriend.
The Man Was Found Dead Last Week in Plainevaux
The man was found dead last week in Plainevaux, a sub-municipality of Liège Neupré. A 2.5-year-old girl was found healthy and well in his car, which was parked nearby. A little further on, in Ougrée, a 14-year-old girl was found dead. The two girls were sisters from Anderlecht who were missing.
The thirty-something would have contacted the teenage girl via social media and suggested she go shopping, after which they would have agreed somewhere in Brussels. The girl would have taken her little sister to that appointment.
It now appears that Olivier T. was convicted of arson by the Eupen criminal court in February 2022. He set fire to his former girlfriend’s apartment. He was sentenced to a five-year suspended prison sentence for the portion he did not spend in pre-trial detention.
However, the man was never checked by the probation committee, which should have supervised several conditions as part of his suspended sentence, SudInfo reports. Master Stéphanie Moor, the lawyer of Olivier T.’s former girlfriend, expressed her concern about respect for the conditions set by the judge. One of those conditions was that the man had to find work, according to master Moor.
“I turned to the Eupen probation committee to find out what was going on and to verify whether Mr. was employed or at least looking for work,” the lawyer continued. “They answered me that they were not aware of the file.” That alarmed the lawyer. “I have contacted Eupen’s public prosecutor’s office. It appears that this conviction does not appear on his criminal record,” deplored Master Moor.
The lawyer wonders whether Friday’s drama in Ougrée could not have been prevented if the probation conditions had been supervised.
