A lot of fans expected the Toronto Raptors to blow up their team at this year’s NBA trade deadline.
Why wouldn’t they? This team has severely underperformed this year. Meanwhile, they already have a sophomore with star potential in Scottie Barnes – why not build around him?
The Raptors defied expectations. Despite the swirling rumors, OG Anunoby, Gary Trent Jr., and Fred VanVleet remain on this team. In fact, the Raptors were buyers, not sellers.
They acquired Jakob Poeltl from the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for a first-round pick.
With that in mind, it doesn’t appear as if the Raptors have any interest in a long-term rebuilding project.
If that’s true, they may like this deal that sends them Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards.
