The 30th edition of SEMICON Southeast Asia returned to its original host city this week with a clear message: Southeast Asia is ready to lead the global semiconductor surge, and automation is at its core.
Held at Marina Bay Sands from 20–22 May 2025, the region’s premier microelectronics event convened over 700 exhibitors and 20,000 attendees. One key highlight was the inaugural CEO Summit, where global C-suite leaders mapped out the future of semiconductor innovation, automation, and resilience.
CEO Summit: Strategic Alignment Amid Supply Chain Shifts

The opening day’s CEO Summit gathered industry titans, including top executives from Applied Materials, GlobalFoundries, Infineon, Sandisk, and Soitec. Their discussions revolved around navigating global disruptions through advanced automation, resilient ecosystems, and strategic investment in next-gen semiconductor manufacturing.
These insights affirmed the region’s vital role in supporting global supply chains, as a manufacturing base and an increasingly strategic innovation hub.
Automation in Focus: Smart Booths, Real Tech, Tangible Impact
Across the exhibition floors at Marina Bay Sands, SEMICON SEA 2025 showcased automation as the backbone of modern semiconductor manufacturing, and the booths told the story best. Here are some of the standouts:
Hitachi
Accelerating green and digital transformations is essential to navigating increasingly advanced sustainable semiconductor manufacturing. The Hitachi booth (Level 1, Sands Expo and Convention Centre) showcased 17 innovations across Energy and management, Materials / Logistics, and Production, addressing key challenges that the semiconductor industry is facing today.
Keysight Technologies
Keysight brought high energy, literally. While demonstrating test and measurement innovations for high-speed interconnects and 6G R&D, they also hosted a popular daily lucky draw, pulling strong booth traffic and providing visitors hands-on insights into automated validation workflows.
Techman Robot
At the heart of Hall B2, Techman impressed visitors with its latest AI cobots featuring built-in vision systems. Designed for electronics inspection and precision pick-and-place, the TM AI Cobot demo showed how collaborative robots can integrate seamlessly into semiconductor lines with minimal footprint.
IFM Electronic
German automation specialist IFM showcased condition monitoring sensors, IO-Link smart devices, and real-time diagnostics platforms, tailored for cleanroom-compliant operations. The booth emphasised how predictive maintenance reduces fab downtime while extending tool lifespan.
Yokogawa
Yokogawa highlighted its AI-enabled process control and digital twin platforms for fab optimisation. The booth also focused on sustainability and introduced analytics-driven energy management tools to improve power usage in semiconductor production.
Cognex
Cognex showcased cutting-edge machine vision systems tailored for electronics assembly and wafer-level defect detection. Their AI-based surface inspection demo, running real-time across sample chips, showed how advanced imaging contributes to zero-defect goals.
Fluke
Known for its test tools, Fluke presented smart diagnostics equipment used in cleanroom HVAC, static control, and environmental monitoring, which are essential in ensuring production compliance. Engineers were drawn to their hands-on sessions involving wireless thermal imaging and IoT-ready tools.
Aerotech
Motion control experts Aerotech demoed high-precision nanopositioning stages and automation platforms designed for die bonding and wafer probing applications. Their emphasis on speed without compromising sub-micron precision resonated with R&D attendees.
RS (RS Group)
RS Group curated an automation-focused showcase featuring top picks from its broad electronics and test portfolio. With dedicated support for procurement teams and factory engineers, the booth doubled as a networking hotspot for MRO professionals seeking rapid sourcing solutions.
Workforce Development: Building Talent for an Automated Future
Automation alone isn’t enough without a skilled workforce. SEMICON SEA 2025 underscored this with multiple initiatives:
- TalentCONNECT and the Career Exploration Fair helped connect young engineers with employers
- The Semiconductor Regional HR Forum discussed AI in talent strategies
- SEMI TECH Zoomer Bootcamp offered students hands-on exposure to fab processes, automation tools, and industry mentorship
These programmes reflect a broader industry drive to upskill talent pipelines for highly automated, data-driven fab environments.
Sustainability and Automation Go Hand-in-Hand
With automation playing a critical role in energy efficiency and emissions monitoring, the event’s Global Climate Summit (GCS) workshops tackled how fabs can meet sustainability goals while scaling production.
Technology demonstrations showed how process automation, predictive maintenance, and real-time analytics enable cost savings and carbon reductions in production facilities.

In a nod to Southeast Asia’s growing role as a strategic semiconductor hub, handshake@SEMICON brought together international trade representatives from the EU, Sweden, Malaysia, and Singapore. These sessions provided a platform for companies to explore automation-led market entry strategies, regulatory insights, and cross-border R&D collaboration.
