Singapore Food Festival Returns With In-Person Physical Event This Year

Singapore Food Festival (SFF) is back, and this year, there will be a physical Festival Village for foodies to go around trying the dishes on site – the first time since the pandemic – on top of other culinary activations such as free virtual masterclasses by local chefs, behind-the-scenes tours and more.

Running from 24 August to 11 September 2022, the 29^th edition of Singapore Food Festival is set to entice with over 70 gastronomic experiences themed around heritage, contemporary and innovation. Among the programme highlights include the Festival Village, happening at the Bayfront Event Space from 31 August to 11 September.

The Festival Village

At the Festival Village, you can expect to see offerings from over 25 culinary and beverage brands under one roof such as Jelebu Dry Laksa’s signature dish topped with Boston lobster and tiger prawns, The Feather Blade’s beef rendang slider, as well as a seafood bisque with ngoh hiang presented by Michelin Bib Gourmand stall One Prawn & Co in collaboration with heritage brand Hock Lian Huat.

Look out too for the Peranakan fish cake from Rempapa Chef Damian D’Silva, amd the Kurobuta Wanton Mee by Aaron Wong and ex-TV actor Thomas Ong.

Within the grounds of the festival village, the Chef Arena will showcase a special nine-course dinner created by top culinary experts featured in SFF’s virtual masterclasses. The dinner will be paired with a Martell Noblige cocktail created by No Sleep Club’s head bartender Juan Yi Jun.

Behind-The Scenes Tours and Workshops

Curious about the workings of the culinary scene? Then book yourself on one of the tours happening during SFF. Learn about botanicals used to make gin at homegrown gin brand Brass Lion’s distillery. Urban fish farms Atlas Aquaculture and Blue Aqua shows how Singapore is rearing seafood with trips to their land-based farms.

For those who prefer some hands-on action, learn the art of mixing spices from third-generation owner Jeya Seelan of traditional spice stall Jeya Spices. Or steal some Thermox tips and tricks from cookbook author Annie Xavier and passionate home bakers.

SFF is also offering a series of free virtual masterclasses for local and international foodies who are unable to join the physical activities. Chef Damian D’Silva of Rempapa will show how to make Peranakan fish cakes. Labyrinth’s Han Li Guang will tie up with Thitid “Ton” Tassanakajohn of Bangkok’s Le Du to teach viewers how to create pepper-crusted pork cheek bak kut teh at home. For those based in Singapore, you can also purchase food kits from the SFF marketplace to cook alongside the chefs during the conducting of the masterclasses.
