Angela Bassett is getting all the love from her son, Slater, after the Black Panther star did not win an Academy Award for her performance in Wakanda Forever. The teen, who is also an aspiring artist, took to Instagram with a sweet message for his mom.
“What an honor to be among such a talented group of people for the night,” Slater said of his experience at the 95th Oscars. “All my love and support for my beautiful mother,” the teen added. “It would have been wonderful to see her take home an Oscar but at the end of the day, it’s just a material item,” Slater said.
“Her success as an actress, woman, and artist cannot be undone, nor dismissed because of a piece of metal,” the teen declared. “She is the most talented actress and mother I know and I know the world knows it.”
Dozens agreed with Slater’s statement. “Amen to all of this,” Bryan Terrell Clark said. “We all know the truth,” he exclaimed. “Your mom is the truth.” Another social media fan wrote, “Say it louder for them other folks, kid.”
Angela Bassett was nominated for an Academy Award in the area of Best Supporting Actress because of her role as Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The film earned nearly $900 million in worldwide box office sales, which made it one of the highest-grossing films of 2022. The Oscar nomination Angela received was her second in more than 30 years of acting in the industry.
“It’s just been that long since I’ve had a role that would allow me to really showcase what I’m capable of,” Bassett shared during a recent interview with The New Yorker. Angela’s nomination for Best Actress came after her phenomenal portrayal of Tina Turner in What’s Love Got To Do With It?.
“I’ve had a marvelous career,” Bassett shared. “I stay working,” she added. “But that particular role that grabs the attention of the audience and takes them on a journey? As our mothers would say, I can make a dollar out of fifteen cents. But it’s not that transformational kind of experience, or one that electrifies a group to vote for you,” the actress explained.
“And I’m sixty-four years old—it’s, like, ‘O.K., when?’ It’s been thirty years now,” Angela said of her nomination. “Time’s a-ticking! We’re burning daylight! When’s this gonna happen,” the actress asked. “As a woman, you’re always looking for complex roles, whether you’re twenty-eight or sixty-eight.”
Angela Bassett’s incredible acting in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever may not have led to an Oscar, but the actress has certainly made a lasting impact in show business.
“She’s our winner,” one supporter said after Sunday’s Academy Awards ceremony. “We the people being of sound mind and body, agree,” another fan exclaimed.
