An unnamed Spanish opera singer claims that the behaviour of Spanish tenor Plácido Domingo was so well-known, young women working with the opera star were told: “Don’t get in a lift with Plácido Domingo”.
The Associated Press first reported sexual harassment allegations against Domingo almost four years ago, and at least 20 women so far have accused him of incidents that date back to the 1980s.

Now, an unnamed Spanish singer came forward to La Sexta’s Salvados programme to say that she had been harassed and assaulted by Domingo when they worked together two decades ago.
The Guardian has reported that the accuser detailed two separate incidents, and said on the first occasion that Domingo had noticed she was wearing trousers with embroidery on the rear pockets.

“He asked me a very strange question in front of everyone – he asked me: ‘Can I put my hand in that lovely pocket of yours?’” she said on the programme.
“It hit me right in the stomach and I thought to myself, ‘What do I say to this man now to try to keep things normal? If I say no, it’ll have consequences. I don’t even want to think about what could happen if I say yes.’ I fretted over what to say for three seconds.”
The woman said the “incredibly uncomfortable situation” left her feeling like she was “in quicksand”.
