TechSource Systems Pte Ltd, a leading provider of engineering solutions and authorized reseller of MathWorks products, is thrilled to announce its partnership with MathWorks to host Singapore’s inaugural Minidrone Competition. Scheduled for 11 June 2024, this event aims to ignite drone enthusiasts and engineering students’ passion for innovation across the nation.
Supported by MathWorks and hosted at the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore), the “MathWorks Minidrone Competition – Singapore 2024” aims to showcase the potential of MATLAB and Simulink in drone development, offering participants a unique opportunity to unleash their creativity and technical prowess. From designing autonomous flight algorithms to optimizing control systems, contestants will navigate through exciting challenges that push the boundaries of drone technology.

The finals will feature 6 teams from universities and engineering institutions across Singapore, each vying for the coveted title and a chance to win exciting prizes, sponsored by NTU MAE. Participants will showcase their skills in autonomous flight control, obstacle avoidance, and precision landing, among other challenges, leveraging the power of MATLAB and Simulink to bring their drone designs to life.
Chair of NTU’s School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Prof Yeong Wai Yee, said: “Hosting the first-ever Singapore MathWorks Minidrone Competition is a fantastic opportunity to ignite interest and creativity in science, technology, engineering and mathematics among students, of whom many aspire to join NTU for their university education. NTU MAE has a proud history of participating in and hosting student competitions over the years, as hands-on experiential learning is crucial for developing essential skills in our students and fostering innovation.”
Held on the NTU Smart Campus with the involvement of MAE’s student club Aerospace Society, this year’s competition will culminate in a thrilling live finale, where teams will demonstrate their drones’ capabilities in front of a panel of expert judges. Winners will be selected based on criteria such as innovation, technical complexity, and overall performance, with cash prizes awarded to the top teams.
