Workers at a dangerous goods storage facility in Auckland were evacuated after a toxic gas leaked in the building.

A Fire and Emergency spokesperson said methyl bromide leaked from containers at the facility on Bowden Road in Mt Wellington.

Methyl bromide is used for fumigation of logs and timber and is toxic to humans.

Staff inside the building were evacuated.

Fire and Emergency said the gas had dissipated.
