With the recent trend of censor bars, Twitch bans implied nudity.
Not even a week after the new year, Twitch released an update regarding their attire policies. Twitch chief customer trust officer Angela Hession posted an entire blog update regarding the matter. They confirmed that this was a response to the new meta where streamers use “black censor bars or other items to block their bodies or clothing or position the camera frame such that the viewer is led to believe that the streamer is fully or partially nude.“
Even if a streamer correctly and responsibly labels their intent within the Sexual Themes label, thumbnails of this topic disrupt the experiences of Twitch users. This also applies even if streamers are wearing clothes behind the censor bars or outside the camera frame.
Perhaps this recent change will make the site more welcoming to popular icons who are thinking of starting their streaming career, such as LeBron James.

“We don’t permit streamers to be fully or partially nude, including exposing genitals or buttocks. Nor do we permit streamers to imply or suggest that they are fully or partially nude, including, but not limited to, covering breasts or genitals with objects or censor bars. We do not permit the visible outline of genitals, even when covered. Broadcasting nude or partially nude minors is always prohibited, regardless of context.”

Furthermore, Twitch dedicated a section to streamers who present as women.
“Cover your nipples and do not expose underbust. Cleavage is unrestricted as long as these coverage requirements are met and it is clear that the streamer is wearing clothing.”

Lastly, Twitch also made it clear that it is mandatory to “cover the area extending from your hips to the bottom of your pelvis and buttocks.“
What Prompted this Change?
Twitch posted this new update in order to change a policy they released back in early December. The site allowed ‘artistic nudity’, which dangerously spiraled out of control. For one, an OnlyFans model named Morgpie began streaming on the platform, where she looked topless as her camera was positioned to cut off right below her cleavage.
Other streamers followed suit, as they would always put censor bars on their privates.
As a result, Morgpie and other streamers are now banned.
Perhaps these recent incidents will make Twitch think twice before allowing any kind of nudity on their platform.
