Uhuru, Raila and Azimio la Umoja Leaders are Tighter Than Before, Senator Osotsi

• The senator said provided Uhuru Kenyatta, Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua and Gideon Moi’s bond was intact Azimio la Umoja could only get stronger
• He accused selfish leaders in Azimio la Umoja of betraying voters’ by crossing to Kenya Kwanza instead of remaining vigilant to oversight government
• Senator Godfrey Osotsi accused Musalia Mudavadi of using Luhya unity meetings to hook those in Opposition into William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has dismissed speculation that Azimio la Umoja One-Kenya Coalition Party is clutching at the straws to stay alive.

Osotsi said the party which lost election to President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance is stronger than before and will feralessly discharged its oversight role as the Opposition.

The senator told TUKO.co.ke that the coalition’s extinction was a sterile imagination by Kenya Kwanza camp, saying the latter was the one facing an ugly fallout.

According to Osostsi his camp’s leaders had not imagined, leave alone to cross over and work with Ruto’s faction.

The coalition has endured a storm that was ignited by sharing of parliamentary positions and nomination of mambers to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

“Ex-President Uhuru Kenyatta, my party leader Raila Odinga, Martha Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka and Gideon Moi have not complained yet. We are still united as the Azimio team and we will only get stronger,” Osotsi said.

Osotsi accused a few “selfish and disloyal” individuals in Azimio of wanting to tarnish the coalition’s name by defecting to UDA, terming their moves as individual decisions and not the party’s leaders’ decision.

“Those raising issues are driven by self-motives because they have been in a past government and now feel discontented being in Opposition. Politics is a game of change, you are in government today and tomorrow you find yourself in Oopposition. We must learn to adjust,” Osotsi observed.

The former ANC Secretary General who also served as a nominated MP wondered why the complaining legislators were shifting to the government with excuses of sourcing development for their electorate yet they had constitutional powers to implement the budget.

“The current constitution has empowered MPs to implement the budget. The president has no power in this case, meeting the president for developments is a baseless agenda,” he said.

He criticised Azimio leaders decamping to UDA citing that they were a let-down to their people who entrusted them with their votes to bring change to their lives.

“Kenyans pay taxes and they expect and deserve proper services and developments from the leaders they chose to represent them in the government,” added the vocal legislator.

United Democratic Party (UDA) blamed

Osotsi blamed Ruto’s UDA party on Azimio’s woes citing that it was hellbent on swallowing the Opposition to compromise objective oversight by legislative houses.

“The government has no plan of solving Kenya’s big problems, instead it is focused at killing the Opposition to get free space for corruption vices like the GMO maize saga,” said Osotsi.

He noted that the president duped the nation by promising to highly regard the opposition which he is now battling to outface.

“Welcoming the Opposition to his leadership is different from inviting the same Opposition to a round table to discuss development. We will stay vigilant,” Osotsi pledged.

Meeting with Musalia Mudavadi

Asked why he skipped a meeting that brought together Mulembe leaders chaired by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Osotsi rubbished the meeting as an inconsequential gathering with no solid agenda to elevate livelihoods of the Luhya community members.

“If we are looking for unity we must focus on the unity of purpose in a transparent manner,. after every General Election, Mulembe leaders pretend to come together to discuss unity which eventually turns out to be self-interest discussion,” the senator stated.

He further disregarded Mudavadi’s meeting saying it was a bait to hook the Luhya community to UDA as he promised to stay in Opposition and watch the president fulfil the 30% power share he promised to Mulembe nation during the campaigns.

This comes at the back of Jubilee MPs threatening to quit Azimio la Umoja and be open to work with government over alleged discrimination in allocation of parliamentary leadership positions by the Raila-led faction.
