United States would ‘go to war’ to defend Taiwan

US President Joe Biden’s commitment to defend Taiwan in an invasion makes it clear the United States would “go to war” if necessary, according to former US secretary of defence Leon Panetta.

The President revealed in an interview last year he would send US forces to defend Taiwan if it was attacked by China.

“President has made very clear that the United States would, in fact, move to defend Taiwan and deploy our military forces into Taiwan in order to protect them,” Mr Panetta told Sky News anchor and investigative journalist Peter Stefanovic.
