One former Democratic voter expressed her support for Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers, while a lifelong Republican opted to support Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, a Democrat, despite significant policy disagreements.

Marjorie Mehney, a resident of Petoskey, stated she cast her vote for Rogers, describing herself as a Democrat “years ago” but now feeling “embarrassed” by the direction of the party under candidates like El-Sayed. Notably, she observed a surprising number of campaign signs for El-Sayed in her predominantly Republican hometown.
“The majority are Republican. However, there’s a considerable amount of support for Abdul,” Mehney commented while discussing local election sentiments. “We’ve never witnessed such a display of support with signs in front yards.”

When asked about the unexpected rise of El-Sayed in her community, Mehney expressed confusion and said the support was “a bit shocking.” She warned, however, that if El-Sayed were elected, Michigan voters might later regret their choice.

As the campaign drew to a close, Rogers attempted to distance himself from Trump on certain controversial topics, advocating for a swift conclusion to military engagements and the cessation of tariff disputes.
Despite these efforts, Wright remained unconvinced, expressing that the Republican Party had shifted too far toward Trump and noting that Rogers’ adjustments were insufficient to earn his backing. “The test is whether people are willing to hold their nose and vote for Abdul due to their disapproval of Trump,” Wright remarked.
