A man has died in a ‘water-related incident’ in the Coromandel Peninsula holiday town of Whangamatā.
Police said the man died on Tuesday evening.
“Emergency services responded to a report of a man missing in the water, near the estuary, shortly after 6pm,” a statement said.
A rescue helicopter crew searching for the man located him, but attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
The death would be referred to the coroner.
