President Trump Approves Visa for Mother of Bronx Shooting Victim
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced that President Donald Trump has agreed to expedite a visa for the mother of Javits Frimpong, a 15-year-old immigrant from Ghana who was tragically shot and killed last week in the Bronx.
In a statement posted on social media, Mayor Mamdani expressed his sorrow, saying, “The murder of a child is a pain no parent should have to endure, let alone from thousands of miles away. Javits Frimpong’s mother deserves to say goodbye to her son in person. I just got off the phone with President Trump and he has agreed to grant her visa immediately.”
Fox News Digital has contacted the White House for further comments on the matter.
Details of the Tragic Incident
Javits Frimpong was shot in the abdomen while on his way to school on Thursday morning around 9:30 a.m., as reported by the New York City Police Department. He was rushed to a local hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
As of now, police have made no arrests, and the investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Mayor Mamdani remarked, “All of New York City is mourning this tragedy.”
Frimpong had moved to the Bronx from Ghana one year prior to stay with his father in an effort to build a new life in the United States, according to U.S. Representative Ritchie Torres, D-N.Y.
Community Response and Family Insights
Reflecting the community’s sorrow, Representative Torres stated, “Our entire borough is mourning a young man who should have had his whole future ahead of him. Every child in the Bronx deserves to walk to school without fearing for their life, and no parent should ever have to endure what Javits’s father, Thomas, is enduring now.”
Thomas Frimpong described his son as a quiet teenager and shared troubling news he received just days before the shooting regarding bullying at school. “It was the principal who told me. He said two guys are disturbing my son, so he has suspended the two guys. My son is at school. He’s innocent, so I call him. I talk with my son; he said, ‘Dad, I’m okay,'” he stated.
The Ghanaian Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa expressed his condolences via social media, stating that Ghana’s representatives in New York are working closely with local authorities. He emphasized the commitment of the Ghanaian government to seek justice for the victim.
Support for the Victim’s Family
Foreign Minister Ablakwa welcomed Mamdani’s intervention and President Trump’s decision to facilitate the visa for the victim’s mother, stating, “Madam Doris Adu Gyamfi’s pain as a loving mother is unimaginable, and indeed everything must be done to ensure she is present to pay her respects.” He added that the Ghanaian government would cover all travel expenses for Madam Adu Gyamfi and offers to contribute towards a respectful funeral.
This tragic case highlights ongoing concerns about gun violence in urban settings and the experiences of immigrant families facing unexpected hardships.
