Senate Speaker Amason Kingi approves ouster of Fatuma Dullo as Minority Whip

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has approved the removal of Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo as Senate minority whip.

Kingi announced the changes on Thursday, March 16, the afternoon following a month-long push and pull between him and Azimio-allied lawmakers.

In his communique, Kingi said he was satisfied that the minority side had met all the set requirements and the standing orders and therefore, he effected the changes.

“It is therefore my finding and I so hereby rule that the letter sent to me by Senate Minority Leader met the requirements of the Standing Orders as stipulated in Standing Order No. 23 and accordingly,”

“Senator Fatuma Dullo CBS, MP has been validly removed as Senate Minority Whip,” Kingi said.

Dullo is replaced by her Narok counterpart Ledama Ole Kina and Deputised by Nairobi’s Edwin Sifuna.

Two days ago, the  Political Parties Disputes Tribunal struck out Fatuma Dullo’s petition challenging her removal as the Senate Minority Whip.

The tribunal’s ruling stated it lacked the jurisdiction to rule on internal party affairs.

The Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition had on February 15 resolved to remove Dullo as the Senate Minority Whip.

Dullo was among Jubilee Party leaders who pledged support for President William Ruto, forcing the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya leadership to crack the whip on her.

Aggrieved by her removal, the Isiolo Senator moved to the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal on February 20 to challenge her ejection, terming it unfair.

The tribunal, chaired by Desma Nungo, said in the ruling that Dullo rushed to the tribunal before presenting her case at Azimio’s Internal Dispute Resolution Committee.
