It is likely that you will hear some explicit language if you ask some NBA fans about “tanking.”
There are a lot of people who don’t like it. Basically, tanking is the act of deliberately losing games in order to maximize your team’s chances of winning the lottery. That doesn’t sit well with some people, and that’s understandable.
There will be no stopping organizations from doing so in spite of that. There is no other mechanism in place to help bad teams improve than the lottery system in place by the league. As long as it exists, they’ll take full advantage of it.
The only exception would be if they did not own their upcoming first-round pick. You can take a look at the Chicago Bulls as an example.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Fred VanVleet, Toronto Raptors & Chicago Bulls Updates
There is a strong chance they will lose their pick to the Orlando Magic with top-four protection in the upcoming NBA draft.
Could that influence them to trade for Fred VanVleet of the Toronto Raptors?
