You probably will want to cross several things off your grocery list before the next time you head to the store — if you haven’t already.
Overall inflation increased by 8.3% between August 2021 and this August, the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Tuesday.
But prices for grocery food items as a whole rose 13.5% during the same period — the largest 12-month increase since March 1979.
Prices for all six major grocery store food groups tracked by the Bureau of Labor Statistics also increased from July 2022 to August 2022.
Some specific grocery items within those six groups are jumping in price at a pace never seen before.
Following are the foods that broke new one-month or 12-month price records in August.

Latest 12-month price change: 23.3% increase (the largest such increase on record)
