Leeds United have sacked Jesse Marsch as manager following a run of two wins in 11 matches across all competitions.
Marsch’s departure comes as the club sits 17th and just outside of the Premier League’s relegation zone on goal difference, following a run of just three points in their last seven league matches – with those three points all coming from three separate draws.
Leeds though have won just two of their last 11 matches in all competitions, which both came in the FA Cup as they defeated Cardiff in a Third Round replay then thrashed Accrington Stanley 3-1 in the Fourth Round.
Sunday’s narrow defeat at Nottingham Forest consequently proved to be the final straw for club bosses, who have decided to sack Marsch with immediate effect ahead of this week’s crunch double header against Manchester United on 8 & 12 February at Old Trafford then Elland Road respectively.
Marsch’s coaching team of; Rene Maric, Cameron Toshack and Pierre Barrieu have also been released from their duties.
In a club statement, Leeds said: “We would like to thank Jesse and his backroom staff for their efforts and wish them well for the future.”
The club went on to iterate that they’ve swiftly commenced a search for Marsch’s successor, as they added: “The process of appointing a new head coach is under way and we will continue to keep supporters up to date throughout the coming days.”
Confirmation of Marsch’s dismissal comes barely less than 12 months after he succeeded Marcelo Bielsa following the Argentinean’s sacking in late February.
In 37 matches at Leeds, Marsch had led the club to 11 wins, 10 draws and 16 defeats in all compeittions, during which they scored 52 goals and conceded 60 goals. W
West Brom manager, Carlos Corberan has been named as the bookies’ favourites to take over at Elland Road but ex Tottenham bosses, Mauricio Pochettino and Nuno Espirito Santo are also rumoured to be in the frame.
