A DOG expert has revealed the simple act owners should never do even for a few minutes as it could be fatal.
The pooch trainer issued the advice on TikTok and demonstrated just how dangerous leaving your pup in the car could be.
Lee from Southend Dog Training posted the video captioned: “Stop doing this with your dog, you can end up killing it”.
The head trainer, @leesouthenddogtraining, donned a pair of sunglasses and a t-shirt as he filmed himself standing outside a car in the glaring sunshine.
“Just popping to the shop – but hang on a minute, got my dog in the car,” he said.
“It’ll be alright, I’m gonna be five minutes,” Lee added before he stepped into his Land Rover.
The clip then cuts to the man sitting in his car with his glasses on his head, after standing the phone up to film him in the drivers seat.
“I’m gonna sit in my car for five minutes, it’s 27 degrees, let’s see what people put their dogs through shall we?,” he said.
“People seem to think it’s harmless just by leaving their dog in a car, and run into the shops.
“Well I’ve been in my car so far for exactly 60 seconds and I’m starting to feel the heat”.
Lee reached up and removed his sunnies off the top of his head before taking a deep breath.
“I’ve been in the car one minute and 45 seconds and I’m already struggling to take it,” he said, breathing heavily and showing his 603.9k followers the sweat forming on his forehead.
“Literally sweating, t-shirt starting to get wet, breathings getting a bit tight, but it’s okay, you’re only gonna be five minutes aren’t you, your dogs going to be fine – wrong,” he added.
The dog trainer, now glistening in sweat and red in the face, explained that heat stroke is the number one killer with dogs, but it can be easily avoided “by not being lazy”.
“We’re meant to be a nation of animal lovers,” he said breathlessly, “so why the f*** do we think it’s alright to play Russian roulette with our dogs lives?”.
He then begins fanning himself while revealing to followers that his breathing was getting “really tight” after only being in the car for three minutes.
Lee said that “cracking open a window” makes no difference to the danger levels of leaving your dog in a car as “it does nothing”.
He then documents the fourth minute where he showed his fans how “soaked” he was from the extreme sweating and by the fifth and final minute, he stepped out of the vehicle and said “get me the f*** out of this car”.
The video quickly racked up a mega 173.3k likes and over 4k comments and people left their thoughts on the impactful post.
One wrote: “And on top of that your dog doesn’t know when you will be back! Add panic in. People can be so selfish”.
Another said: “Also, dogs can’t sweat as much as us. They can only lose heat via panting and sweating via paw pads so they’d suffer even more”.
A third commented: “It would be even worse for the dogs [because] they are covered in a layer of fur! Thank you for this video! Respect”.
One more added: “It might be 27 outside, but a car is a huge metal box… it’s an oven. People that leave their dogs in cars are literally cooking them alive”.
This comes after a vet revealed five things you should never do with your dog – but her advice left opinions divided.
And a dog trainer revealed the three breeds he recommends you should never get as a first-time owner.
