A cheeky Lufthansa pilot allegedly drew a penis in frustration after they were told they couldn’t land at his destination – the airline says it was coincidental.
Flight 306 took off from Frankfurt, Germany last Friday headed for Catania in Sicily. But a terminal fire in July at Fontanarossa airport meant the plane could not land at its destination, according to La Repubblica.
The paper claims numerous flights have been diverted as a result of the earlier blaze.
The unidentified pilot allegedly grew frustrated after learning the plane would instead have to land in Malta.
Before the pilot headed towards their new destination, however, they appear to have taken the time to draw male genitalia on a radar map in Catania’s airspace judging by images taken from Flight Radar.
The maneuverer took 16 minutes to complete before the pilot headed back over Sicily and south to Malta.
Lufthansa told La Repubblica that the penis shape was created coincidentally as the pilot was forced to circle before he was instructed to divert. A sudden change in wind patterns was blamed for the diversion.
This is just the most recent case of a pilot drawing a penis pattern which has been labelled an accident.
Last year, a US Air Force pilot appeared to draw a phallic symbol over the Mediterranean near a Russian base in Syria. The pattern appeared on flight radar over the waters between Cyprus and Lebanon.
“While these adjustments and movements appear to create a vulgar outline, there was no intent by the pilots or the unit to do so,” Captain Ryan Goss said in a statement.
He added that the US Air Force would “continue to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and airmanship”.
In 2017, two Navy pilots drew a giant “sky penis” with a jet’s contrails over central Washington which then went viral because they said it “would be awesome”.
