But the lake itself is incredibly peaceful, making it a beautiful place to relax and have a peaceful vacation. In fact, it’s actually one of the biggest freshwater lakes in the whole world, and its waters boast a delightful shade of blue. Visitors can enjoy the pristine sandy beaches and the lush forests – a slice of heaven found in Wisconsin.
5. Taos, New Mexico
Taos, New Mexico is an incredibly special place in the United States, but for some reason, continues to be completely underrated. One of the most important things that make Taos so special is that it is both a UNESCO World Heritage Site as well as a National Historic Landmark, mostly due to its adobe architecture.
In fact, these old, adobe houses (many of which are multi-story homes) are still occupied to this day. And Taos has become a mecca for artists, attracting people from all over the world. Thus, it has an incredible art scene, as well as access to some awesome outdoor adventures in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains nearby.
6. Pioneer Valley, Massachusetts
Pioneer Valley, in western Massachusetts, is known by many for its beautiful landscapes – rolling hills and flowing rivers. However, it’s also home to a surprisingly vibrant art scene – including a mixture of theatres, music venues, art galleries, and more. There are plenty of delightful shops and restaurants that are worth visiting, full of character and charm, making Pioneer Valley a wonderful place to go on holiday.
7. Ouachita Mountains, Arkansas
The Ouachita Mountains in Arkansas are unique in that they run from east to west rather than from north to south. The slopes, sandstone and shale, have two types of greenery – hardwood on one side, and oak and pine on the other.
These mountains may not have the same reputation as the Rockies or some of the other well-known ranges in the country, but they certainly are beautiful. They boast amazing woodlands that are almost mystical in their beauty, as well as crystalline lakes and rivers that’ll take your breath away. And, because the Ouachita Mountains aren’t as popular as many other places in the States, the area is less frequented by tourists, making it a great spot for a peaceful getaway in nature.
8. White Sands National Park, New Mexico
Completely surrounded by the White Sands Missile Range, White Sands National Park is a unique location in New Mexico that is made up of sweeping white sand dunes and gypsum as far as the eye can see. In addition, it’s also just really beautiful and is a great place to enjoy some outdoor activities!
