Burnley have appointed Scott Parker as manager on a three-year contract.
Parker’s appointment comes barely four months after he was sacked by Belgium’s Club Brugge, having taken just two wins in 12 matches across all competitions – which included a 5-1 away loss at Benfica to lose their Champions League clash 7-1 on aggregate in Round of 16.
Speaking upon his appointment as Burnley manager, Parker commented: “I’m really pleased to be here! I have been speaking with Burnley for some time now which has been a positive thing as I’ve now got a real feel for the people around the club.”
“To be around the training ground now you start to get that feeling again and I can’t wait to get on the training field and start work!”
“For us to be successful this year is the most important thing. We have to win and build a team the fans and club can be proud of. This team can represent every single one of them in that aspect and that’s the aim.”
Chairman, Alan Pace added that Parker’s vision and solid EFL record fits the club’s ambitions for this season
“His vision for the future aligns with our goals and ambitions of returning to the Premier League as soon as possible.”
“His track record of success along with a commitment to developing young talent makes him an ideal fit.”
“We are confident he can lead us to new heights and continue to build on the solid foundations laid at Turf Moor.”
Parker previously began his managerial career at his former playing club, Fulham in February 2019 and took the Cottagers to promotion via Championship Play-Off Final success over West-London rivals, Brentford in 2019-20 season.
He however couldn’t keep Fulham in the Premier League but his performances saw him secure a move to Bournemouth, where he took the Cherries to automatic promotion alongside his ex team – Fulham in 2021-22 season.
Parker’s time at Bournemouth however was curtailed just weeks into the 2022-23 season following a tough start, which began with a 2-0 home win over Aston Villa followed by heavy losses to Manchester City, Arsenal and a 9-0 mauling away at Liverpool.
